Talia Ilan is a guest conductor leading major Israeli orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, Israel Chamber Orchestra, Israel Sinfonietta Be'er Sheva, and Ra’anana Symphonette.
International guest conducting engagements include the Johannesburg Philharmonic, KZN Philharmonic; the Macao Orchestra, Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, and the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra in China; the Ischia Music Festival in Italy, the Janáček Philharmonic and the Moravian Philharmonic in the Czech Republic; “Reflex Ensemble” in New York, FAMES orchestra in Macedonia and the "Classical Women" orchestra in Belgium. For the last two decades, she held the positions of Music Director of the Israel Stage Orchestra and the Campus Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Tel Aviv, Ms. Ilan studied piano and clarinet. She obtained her B.Mus, M.Mus, and Artist Diploma degrees in Orchestral Conducting at The Jerusalem Rubin Academy as a student of Prof. Mendi Rodan. Her mentors include Maestro Daniel Barenboim at the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden and Maestro Michael Tilson Thomas at The London Symphony Orchestra, New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami, and the San Francisco Symphony.
Talia has been a jury member of various competitions such as the Prime Minister Prize for Israeli Composers, the Paul Ben Haim Young Artist Competition, the Ministry of Culture awards for outstanding young musicians, the TARF international Recorders competition, and the PianoFest Arad Concerto Competition.
Ms. Ilan is devoting time to in-depth research about women composers, as well as the forgotten treasures of their compositions. She regularly includes women composers in her classical radio programs as a radio program editor at Israel’s public classical music station. Her daily hashtag #oneconductoraday continues to draw international attention to women conductors beyond the classical music world.
Named as one of the most inspiring women of our generation in the State of Israel, Conductor Talia Ilan appears in "True Legends" (Agadot Amityot / Hebrew, Dvir publishing 2019).
Talia is married to conductor Yi-An Xu, and they have two daughters – Noya who plays violin and recorders, and Shira who plays cello.
